Over at Truefire’s blog, ‘The Punch-In‘, There is an article and series of short mini video lessons showing you some signature riffs and techniques from 7 legendary guitar masters. The videos cover Eric Clapton, B.B. King, Johnny Winter, Duane Allman, T-Bone Walker, Jimmy Page, and Albert King. These are all short segments from longer video lessons available through Truefire.
Just as art students learn by studying and copying the old masters, you should do the same for developing your guitar technique. These guitarists are all cornerstones of the blues-rock sound and have influenced nearly everyone that came after them in this genre. Study guitarists like this and any others who you admire. But don’t shy away from guitar styles and genres different then what you normally play. The more techniques and patterns you learn, the broader theĀ palette you have to draw on to create a sound that is uniquely your own.
