Lately I’ve gotten into fuzz tones, especially over the top nasty sounding fuzz. This inevitably lead me to the Queen of fuzz, Devi Ever. If your not familiar, Devi makes exactly this type of pedal, and at the moment pretty much only this type of pedal. She has over a dozen pedals all dedicated to rooting out every subtle, and not so subtle, nuance, harmonics, dis-harmonics and overtones that can be squeezed out of the unfortunate transistors populating her pedals.
Because she has focused on fuzz exclusively there is a common criticism that all her pedals sound the same. Yet these same critics are probably the type that would have no problem buying ten different overdrive pedals from ten different manufacturers in search of “that sound”.
This single focused approach has also won Devi Ever a cult of dedicated followers as well. The most devoted of which hang out on the Devi Ever forums where Devi is very active. This is where I just saw Devi’s latest pedal announcement – the limited run, “Ruby”. The pedal sounds great, but the most surprising thing about it is the price, a mere $50! That’s $50 for a hand made boutique pedal from an established pedal builder. Crazy! Well I got mine. Not sure how limited a run this will be so if your considering it, best to do it sooner then later. Update:this promotion has ended but you can still buy one for the normal price of $97.50 from various retailers.
